When pieces are pinned, you always have to be on guard for deflection sacrifices. In this case
1. Ne2?? blocking e2 is a mistake due to the incredible 1. .. Rf1+!! deflecting the white king. If 2. Kxf1, then simply 2. .. Qxd2 and the Bf4 is pinned.
1. Nd5 fails the same way but with skewer at the end: 1. Nd5 Rf1! 2. Ke2 Rf2+! (skewer!) 3. Kxf2 Qxd2 and again the Bf4 is pinned.
Therefore, the only move is Nd1, guarding f2 and allowing the Bf4 to be saved.
The theme here is deflection...
